Socialist International condemn Hamas terrorist attack against Israel & demand unconditional release of captives

As President of the Socialist International I call for the maintenance of peace among people. I strongly condemn the terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel and the cruel murder of Israelis. I further demand the unconditional release of those who are now being held captive.

Israel has the right to defend itself against this terrorist attack with respect for international law. The humanitarian tragedy we are seeing in Gaza, the indiscriminate attack against innocent civilians, the fact of thousands of people fleeing their homes in search of refuge is of extreme concern to all. I therefore join the United Nations Secretary-General in calling for respect for international humanitarian law and the four Geneva Conventions, and i call for the restoration of supplies and access for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

I also express my solidarity with all the families who have lost their relatives, the victims and the wounded.

I would like also to express my solidarity with our sister parties in Israel and Palestine. We all make every effort with the leaders in the region to prevent further escalation of violence.

The Socialist International has a long history in the region of seeking agreements for a viable solution to the conflict.

The solution to this conflict and the achievment of peace will only come from the recognition of the two states, Palestine and Israel in peace and security.

אני גם מביע את הזדהותי עם כל המשפחות שאיבדו את קרוביהן, הקורבנות והפצועים.

כולנו עושים כל מאמץ עם המנהיגים באזור כדי למנוע הסלמה נוספת של האלימות.
